SKODA and Volkswagen recall 47,000 cars in India. checked affected models.

SKODA Auto Volkswagen India, a subsidiary of Volkswagen Group, has started a voluntary recall for all five locally made cars – including SKODA Kodiaq, Slavia, and Kushaq, alongside Volkswagen’s Taigun and Virtus – due to a seat belt issue impacting rear passengers in crashes, revealed during a routine inspection.

The recall was prompted by a safety concern for rear passengers during frontal collisions due to potential failures in the rear center seat belt assembly, like the latch plate or webbing breaking, and a possible malfunction of the right rear seat belt buckle that could heighten injury risk in accidents.

A total of 47,235 cars, including 25,722 SKODA vehicles (Kushaq, Slavia, Kodiaq) and 21,513 Volkswagen cars (Taigun, Virtus), are part of the voluntary recall. These units were produced between May 24 last year and April 1 this year.

The company plans to provide free repairs for the seat belt problem by replacing faulty parts with new ones. SKODA Auto Volkswagen India will reach out to each vehicle owner directly. Owners can contact their dealership or check the recall webpage with their vehicle’s VIN for more information.
