Sharmila Tagore is upset about BCCI's decision to retire the Pataudi Trophy.

Veteran actor Sharmila Tagore is reportedly upset over the possible retirement of the Pataudi Trophy by the BCCI and ECB. The trophy, named after her late husband Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, is awarded to the winner of the Test series between India and England. Introduced in 2007 for the 75th anniversary of the first India vs England Test in 1932.

Tagore expressed her disappointment as the ECB informed her son, Saif Ali Khan, about retiring the trophy. She shared with Hindustan Times that the BCCI is yet to confirm their decision on acknowledging Tiger’s legacy. An official statement from the BCCI is pending to confirm the retirement of the trophy.

The Pataudi Trophy, introduced in 2007 by the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) to honor the legendary cricketer, known as ‘Tiger,’ who played and captained Tests for India from 1961-75. Pataudi passed away in September 2011.

An ECB spokesperson declined to comment on the story, with BCCI officials not available. Further, the Pataudi family faced another setback earlier this year when the Madhya Pradesh High Court instructed Saif to appeal against the government’s classification of their historical properties as “enemy property.” This move left ₹15,000 crore worth of properties in limbo under the Enemy Property Act.

If the decision to retire the Pataudi Trophy is confirmed, the possibility of renaming it after emerging cricket stars like Kapil Dev or Ian Botham is being discussed. The India-England series commencing on June 20, marking the start of the new World Test Championship cycle, is expected to attract considerable attention.
