Former RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das is now Principal Secretary 2 to PM Narendra Modi, with his term linked to the Prime Minister’s or until new directives. This appointment was confirmed today by an ACC order.
In his new role, Das will serve with Dr. PK Mishra, the Prime Minister’s Principal Secretary 1. This team expansion indicates a strategic government effort to boost administrative capabilities at the top level. Das’s appointment is a key milestone in his long career in India’s financial sector.
Hailing from Bhubhaneshwar, Das, a retired IAS officer of the 1980 batch, served as the 25th RBI Governor from December 12, 2018. He handed over to Sanjay Malhotra on December 10, 2024, following completion of his term. Das holds a postgraduate degree from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi University.
