A one-day seminar-cum-workshop, organized by the Office of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Handicrafts Service Centre, Kohima under the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, was held on September 13, 2024, at Hotel Seasons in Chumukedima, Nagaland. The event focused on artisans involved in dry flower crafts in the state.
The programme was inaugurated by Er. Y. Lipongse Thongtsar, Additional Director, Directorate of Industries and Commerce, Government of Nagaland. Key attendees included Sh. Deeptansu Haldar, Deputy Director (H), North-Eastern Region, O/o The DC (Handicrafts), and Dr. Dhiraj Kumar, Assistant Director (A&C) from Regional Office, Guwahati / Handicrafts Service Centre, Kohima, Nagaland.
The main objective of the seminar was to sensitize artisans about key topics such as the E-Commerce portal, Goods and Services Tax (GST), Government e-Marketplace (GeM), Geographical Indication (GI) craft registration, role of design in the handicrafts sector and Schemes of O/o The DC (Handicrafts).
Experts from the Commissionerate of State Taxes, Government of Nagaland, provided insights into GST in handicraft sector. A presentation on the E-Commerce portal was delivered by Assistant Professor from the Department of Management at St. Joseph University, Chumukedima. Additionally, Sh. V. Pusa from the Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts (EPCH) discussed the GeM portal and GI crafts, while design expert Sh. Ranjit Gogoi, an empanelled designer with the O/O The DC (Handicrafts), emphasized the significance of design in the handicraft industry.
The seminar concluded with a vote of thanks and an interactive session between the artisans and the officials, led by Dr. Dhiraj Kumar, Assistant Director along with Sh. Rajib Ch. Roy, Handicrafts Promotion Officer, and Sh. P. Barman, Assistant Engineer from the Office of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Ministry of Textiles, Government of India.
