Chennai Super Kings’ regular captain, Ruturaj Gaikwad, sustained a hairline fracture in his elbow during a match against Rajasthan Royals in the current IPL season. Gaikwad is ruled out for the rest of the season, with MS Dhoni taking over as the team captain.
Gaikwad voiced his disappointment about missing the rest of IPL due to an elbow injury, expressing gratitude for fans’ support and pledging to support the team from the sidelines. He acknowledged the season’s challenges but highlighted the young wicketkeeper now leading the team.
CSK’s head coach Stephen Fleming confirmed Gaikwad’s injury, stating he got hit in Guwahati and has been playing through pain. An MRI later showed an elbow fracture, leading Fleming to announce Gaikwad’s withdrawal from the tournament, praising his efforts despite the unfortunate outcome.
Fleming confirmed reappointment of MS Dhoni as CSK captain on Thursday. Dhoni will lead the team for the remaining IPL matches. He willingly stepped in to guide the team during their losing streak, as they have lost four consecutive matches after the first win.
