Rohit Sharma retires from Test cricket, leaving behind a legacy of unique records.

Senior Indian batsman Rohit Sharma surprisingly announced retirement from Test cricket on May 7. After a decade representing India, Rohit bid farewell to the format, having captained in 24 Tests from 2022 to 2024, winning 12. His batting prowess shone during this period, creating notable Test records.

In 24 Tests as India’s captain, Rohit scored 1,254 runs averaging 30.58 with 4 centuries and 4 half-centuries. Notably, India hasn’t lost a Test when Rohit scored a century while leading. As captain, Rohit has 810 runs from 20 winning innings at an average of 42.63, converting 4 half-centuries to centuries.

Rohit scored 12 Test centuries, leading India to victory each time. He holds the record for the most centuries in this scenario, with Warwick Armstrong in second place with 6.

According to ESPNcricinfo, Rohit is second only to Virender Sehwag in hitting the most sixes for India in Test cricket, with 88 maximums. He set a record by smacking 13 sixes in a Test against South Africa in 2019. Noteworthy is Rohit’s feat of scoring centuries in both innings.

According to ESPNcricinfo, Rohit had a streak of 30 Test innings without a single-digit score from February 2021 to July 2023, the longest for a batter. He also holds the record for the most Test centuries as an opener, with nine between 2019 and 2024, surpassing all but two other players who have more than five such centuries.
