The Lok Sabha faced chaos when Opposition Leader Rahul Gandhi was denied a chance to speak after PM Modi’s address. Subsequently, opposition members protested, leading Speaker Om Birla to adjourn the session. They questioned why PM Modi was permitted to speak without prior notice.
After PM Modi left Lok Sabha, Speaker Om Birla explained that the PM’s statement was made under Rule 372, permitting a minister to address a public matter with Speaker’s consent. Birla noted that, according to the rule, opposition members were unable to seek clarification. Despite this, the opposition’s protests persisted, resulting in proceedings being adjourned.
Following the disruption, Gandhi backed PM Modi’s remarks while criticizing him for neglecting to honor the Kumbh stampede victims. He expressed his support for the PM’s speech, emphasizing the significance of Kumbh to India’s heritage. Gandhi also noted the absence of homage paid by Modi to the stampede victims.
Gandhi explained that, in the new India, despite the democratic structure allowing the LoP to speak, he was not permitted to do so. Modi praised the Maha Kumbh for fostering unity and proving India’s capability in organizing such events. He highlighted the collective spirit in Prayagraj, where individuals set aside personal egos to come together as one, emphasizing unity over individuality.
