Bihar CM Nitish Kumar reassured his support for the BJP-led NDA, vowing not to leave it again, during a Patna event with Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Kumar, who acknowledged leaving the NDA twice before as “mistakes,” inaugurated various state and central projects at the event.
Kumar’s declaration gains relevance ahead of Bihar’s assembly elections. He admitted to his mistakes twice and vowed not to repeat them. This statement was made during a function in Patna with Shah, where they launched various government projects. Shah reportedly informed party workers that BJP’s triumph in Bihar would have far-reaching consequences.
Kumar was a BJP ally since the mid-1990s, then left in 2014. He rejoined the NDA in 2017 but left for the opposition INDIA bloc in 2022. However, before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, he returned to the BJP-led NDA. Kumar mentioned that his past departures from the BJP were influenced by his party members.
In his speech, Kumar commended the development work during his leadership while criticizing past regimes, particularly the RJD-Congress partnership, for failing to foster communal unity and provide adequate healthcare and education. He highlighted the inability of previous governments to prevent inter-community conflicts despite securing votes from the Muslim community.
