Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Mohan Singh Bisht has been elected as the Delhi Assembly’s deputy speaker with Chief Minister Rekha Gupta proposing and Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa endorsing his appointment. “I propose Mohan Singh Bisht, a respected House member, as Deputy Speaker,” Gupta stated during an assembly session.
Bisht, a senior BJP leader, recently won the Mustafabad seat with a significant margin of over 17,000 votes against AAP’s Adeel Ahmad Khan. He had previously represented Karawal Nagar from 1998 to 2015 and in 2020, with only one loss in 2015 to BJP’s Kapil Mishra.
The BJP made a strong comeback in Delhi on February 5, ending the AAP’s decade-long rule by winning 48 out of 70 seats in the assembly polls. The AAP’s seat count dropped to 22 while the Congress failed to win any seats for the third time.
