The Indian government plans to launch a cooperative-based service named “Sahkar Taxi” to offer an alternative to Ola and Uber nationwide. The initiative, announced by Union Minister Amit Shah, will register two-wheeler taxis, rickshaws, and four-wheeler taxis. Notably, all profits will directly benefit the drivers.
Shah emphasized that Sahkar Taxi profits will solely benefit drivers, not big corporates. They plan to introduce a cooperative government taxi service similar to Ola and Uber to support this goal. This initiative aims to empower drivers by allowing them to earn direct profits without intermediaries taking a share of their earnings.
Shah highlighted that the Sahkar Taxi launch aligns with PM Modi’s vision of Sahkar Se Samriddhi. The Ministry of Cooperation has actively strived for over three years to realize this vision tangibly. A cooperative taxi service, set to debut shortly, will guarantee drivers a direct share of profits.
The government, through Sahkar Taxi, will join the competition with established platforms like Uber, Ola, Rapido, and newcomers such as BluSmart. This aligns with a trend observed in West Bengal and Karnataka, where cooperative taxi services like Yatri Sathi and Namma Yathri are operating successfully, prioritizing direct profits for drivers.
