Modi government loses ₹1,757cr due to BSNL's failure to bill Jio.

The Indian government incurred a ₹1,757.56 crore loss as BSNL failed to bill RJIL for a decade. The CAG revealed this financial discrepancy due to their passive infrastructure sharing agreement. BSNL couldn’t enforce terms of the service agreement with Jio or charge for added technology on shared infrastructure.

BSNL’s operations from May 2014 to March 2024 led to significant losses for the Indian government. The CAG report disclosed a ₹38.36 crore loss due to failure in deducting license fees from payments to TIPs. The auditor also highlighted billing discrepancies in infrastructure sharing contributing to the losses.

The CAG report revealed that BSNL’s non-compliance with the MSA terms with RJIL led to a revenue loss of ₹29 crore (including GST) due to non-application of the escalation clause in infrastructure sharing charges, showcasing the significant financial consequence of their failure to adhere to the agreement with Jio.
