Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis directed cyber police to collaborate with Wikipedia on disputed content about Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. This followed concerns raised by organizations regarding historical inaccuracies post-release of the film Chhaava, portraying Sambhaji’s life, son of Maratha ruler Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
Fadnavis is adamant about stopping historical distortions on platforms like Wikipedia and has directed the cyber cell to contact Wikipedia to remove objectionable content about Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. He instructed officials to act promptly against such misrepresentations, emphasizing their unacceptable nature.
Fadnavis acknowledged the challenge of regulating Wikipedia due to its global operations managed by volunteers. While recognizing this difficulty, he expressed the possibility of requesting the platform to implement measures preventing distortions of historical facts in the future.
Fadnavis highlighted the challenge of regulating social media due to the absence of clear geographical jurisdiction. He plans to address this issue with the Union government. Additionally, he expressed worry about unauthorized sharing of cabinet agenda documents and urged ministers’ offices to avoid it.
