KIIT students allege assault near campus, stating a police van was present.

Several KIIT students were reportedly attacked and molested by three unknown assailants near Khau Gali. The incident occurred on a Thursday evening, with both police and campus security present but failing to provide assistance to the victims.

An FIR was filed at Infocity police station following a student’s complaint. It involves sections under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita related to wrongful restraint, obscene acts, weapon-inflicted harm, attempted murder, and outraging a woman’s modesty. Assaulted students reported being kicked, clothes torn during the attack. One student claimed injuries to her private parts during the incident.

The attack happened on the day of a first-year Nepali student’s alleged suicide at KIIT campus. This is the second such incident involving Nepali students in three months. The assaulted students, active in protests after another Nepali student’s alleged suicide earlier this year, believe their participation in protests made them targets.

ACP Sonali Singh has pledged a comprehensive investigation. The incident occurred during a snack outing at Khau Gali. Allegedly, assailants began with verbal abuse, then escalated to physical violence with knives. If the police were present during the assault, they will also be scrutinized and held accountable.

Witnesses provided additional details on the attack. A male engineering student from Bihar, verbally harassed previously for his non-Oriya identity, revealed that the situation heightened as attackers brandished knives. When a female student intervened, she was assaulted and her shirt torn. Another woman who attempted to assist was also attacked.
