Karnataka minister apologizes for remark on molestation in big cities.

Karnataka’s Home Minister, G Parameshwara, apologized for his controversial remarks on a molestation incident in Bengaluru, acknowledging that his comments, suggesting such occurrences are common in cities like Bengaluru, were met with criticism. He later clarified and expressed regret, stating his commitment to utilizing Nirbhaya funds for women’s protection and issuing an apology if any women were hurt by his words.

Parameshwara’s response to a CCTV-recorded molestation incident in Bharathi Layout on April 3 noted that such occurrences are common in big cities. The incident involved a man stalking two women, pinning one against a wall, and groping her.

After his insensitive comments, the opposition BJP criticized Parameshwara for his attitude towards crimes against women. BJP’s Shehzad Poonawalla labeled him a “serial offender” for those statements, citing a misogynist and sexist mindset. Allegations of the Congress-led Karnataka government’s failure to protect women were also made.

Punjab BJP President Sunil Jakhar criticized Rahul Gandhi for not focusing on addressing corruption within his party. Jakhar urged the Congress leader to prioritize internal issues over distant ideals. He highlighted Rahul’s association with corrupt individuals hindering the party’s ability to serve as a robust opposition. Jakhar emphasized the importance of pragmatism over idealism, advising the Congress to reflect and restructure for potential revival.
