Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal urged the opposition alliance, INDIA, to present a united front in the public domain. In a PTI interview, he emphasized the necessity of a formal structure with spokespersons and a cohesive policy direction. Sibal suggested that INDIA appear as a solid bloc rather than fragmented publicly.
Sibal stressed the need for a unified stance on key national issues within the INDIA bloc. He acknowledged that without designated spokespersons representing the bloc’s views, progress might be limited. Although advocating for a formal political framework, he recognized that not all members may be willing to embrace it immediately.
Despite fractures in the INDIA alliance, notably between Congress and AAP, Sibal remains hopeful about the opposition’s future. He envisions different forms and structures for the opposition. Political analysts suggest these divisions may have bolstered BJP’s recent victories in Haryana, Maharashtra, and Delhi.
Sibal highlighted NDA’s minority position and the potential political impact of the Waqf (Amendment) Bill to be tabled in the Budget session. He suggested that the bill could sway Bihar elections, yet noted that legal remedies would remain viable post-passage.
Regarding the delimitation issue, Sibal noted its impact on India’s political landscape. He cited Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin’s recent meeting with opposition figures, stressing that delimitation depends on a new census. In jest, he emphasized the need for a census first before delimitation, saying, “‘abhi Dilli door ast.’”
