Israeli airstrike at Gaza mourning gathering kills 16.

At least 16 Palestinians were killed and over 30 wounded in an Israeli airstrike on mourners in northern Gaza, confirmed by Gaza health authorities. The strike occurred in Beit Lahia during a gathering to mourn previous attack victims, as reported by Xinhua news agency quoting WAFA. Israel’s military has not commented yet.

Amid Israeli military operations in Gaza targeting Hamas militants, over 430 Palestinians died since Tuesday when Israel resumed strikes, ending a ceasefire. Among the victims, there are over 170 children and 80 women. Israel aims to eliminate Hamas threats through these operations and plans to continue until strategic objectives are met.

Palestinian health officials cautioned about overwhelmed hospitals handling a surge in wounded. Israeli Defense Minister Katz warned in a video with Arabic subtitles that the recent airstrikes were just the beginning. He threatened more severe actions unless hostages are returned and Hamas is removed, envisioning total destruction if demands aren’t met.

On Wednesday, Gaza’s Hamas-run media office reported that 2 million residents face food insecurity and a humanitarian crisis due to Israel’s blockade. They highlighted closed border crossings leading to limited bread supply from shuttered bakeries. Urging immediate action to reopen crossings, they warned of the risk of famine for hundreds of thousands in Gaza due to the deprivation of basic necessities by Israel.
