IPL player Abishek Porel talks about his strong performance this season, reflecting on his consistent form.

Abishek Porel, a key player retained by Delhi Capitals after IPL 2024, is crucial in IPL 2025, currently the second-highest run-scorer for DC with 225 runs in eight innings. He attributes his success to game understanding and support from the coaching staff. Playing at the top, he consistently adds value to the team’s performance.

Despite a tough start against LSG, Porel rebounded with support from coach Hemang Badani, mentor Kevin Pietersen, and captain Axar Patel. Their encouragement helped him overcome early challenges, focusing on improving his game. Porel expressed enjoyment after DC’s win over LSG, aiming to enhance his performance with each batting opportunity.

Porel emphasizes training for match readiness by consulting coaches to enhance his skills. He discusses strategies with his coaches, Hemang sir and KP, during training to improve performance. This method helps him translate training efforts into match success, enabling him to adapt to various pitches and maintain consistent performance throughout the season.

Porel highlighted the unwavering support of his teammates, enabling him to showcase his strengths confidently. He expressed gratitude for their backing, stating, “Even if you doubt yourself, they’re always there for me.” The team’s camaraderie has been pivotal in maintaining his positivity through challenging matches. Porel emphasized the mutual understanding between himself and the support staff regarding his abilities and limitations.

Throughout this season, except for one low-scoring game against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Porel has consistently contributed to his team’s score. He played a quick 34 off 18 balls against Sunrisers Hyderabad and a reliable 51 off 36 balls against LSG. While his numbers may not be outstanding this season, DC are satisfied with his performance compared to last season when he scored 327 runs in 14 matches.

Porel shined early, scoring most runs in the powerplay, then continued steadily to reach his first IPL 2025 fifty. A pivotal 69-run partnership with KL Rahul boosted DC’s chase. However, Aiden Markram got Porel soon after he hit his fifty, leaving with 51 off 36 balls (5 fours, 1 six).

In this season, Porel scored 224 runs in 8 matches, averaging 32.14 with a strike rate of 147.36. His total IPL runs are now 585 from 26 matches, averaging 27.86, boasting a strike rate of 150, and including 3 fifties with a high score of 65. Overall, he has 1,181 T20 runs in 43 innings.
