Install a dashcam in your car by following these steps.

Dashcams, popular among Indian car owners, enhance safety and provide surveillance. They may reduce insurance costs and establish your innocence in accidents. Installation is simple, and most owners or drivers can do it themselves. Many dashcam options exist in the market.

Before installing the dashcam, ensure it has an internal battery. Charge it if needed beforehand. The car’s 12V socket can be used for post-installation battery charging. The built-in battery enables continuous dashcam operation and motion detection even when the car is stationary due to the 12V socket shutting off with the engine.

Proper placement of the dashcam is key for optimal performance. It should be near the driver or front passenger, not obstructing the view. A common location is under or in front of the rear-view mirror using a suction cup mount. This ensures it sticks securely to the windshield or dashboard without blocking visibility.

Before installing the dashcam, verify the power cable’s length to reach the 12V socket when properly organized around the window. Avoid directly dropping the cable to maintain a neat look near the center console. Use the 12V port, not the car’s USB, to power the dashcam despite having a USB cable included with many models.

Dashcams typically come with adhesive clips to hide the cable, keeping it within the vehicle’s upholstery or out of sight. After routing the cable, attach the dashcam to the dashboard or windshield for a tidy appearance and optimal performance.
