How India chose which Pakistan airbases to strike: Report

The Indian Air Force (IAF) conducted targeted strikes on Pakistan Air Force (PAF) bases on May 10 in response to recent drone and missile attacks from Pakistan on Indian civilian and military sites. Wing Commander Vyomika Singh stated that the IAF operations focused on military objectives, resulting in minimal collateral damage.

IAF targeted key PAF bases, aiming to halt Pakistan’s air attack capability using drones and jets. The strikes will diminish Pakistan’s air reconnaissance and long-range strike capabilities. This is India’s counter-strategy to thwart Pakistan’s offensive drone and missile threats to India’s civilian safety and military infrastructure.

Located in Rawalpindi, the Nur Khan air base, also known as PAF Base Chaklala, serves as Pakistan’s Air Mobility Command headquarters. The base played a key role in coordinating recent drone and missile attacks from Pakistan. It houses a Saab 2000 airborne early warning and control aircraft believed to support Pakistan’s recent aerial assaults on Indian cities.

Rafiqui airbase in Punjab, Pakistan hosts Mirage and JF-17 fighter squadrons and serves as a training hub for missions in Punjab and Kashmir. The IAF targeted this base to disrupt Pakistan’s attack capabilities with precision weapons. It has played a significant role in recent air engagements between the two nations.

The Murid airbase in Pakistan’s Punjab serves as the central hub for Pakistan’s drone operations, housing various UAVs like Shahpar-I, Bayraktar TB2, and Akinci. Despite hundreds of drones infiltrating India for intelligence gathering in the past two days, several armed drones were intercepted by Indian air defenses.

In response to escalating tensions, Wing Commander Singh reaffirmed India’s dedication to non-escalation, as long as Pakistan reciprocates. The recent Pakistani aerial attacks were in retaliation for India’s precision airstrikes on terror targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir as part of Operation Sindoor.
