Former Australian captain Michael Clarke remains confident in Mumbai Indians’ star Rohit Sharma, foreseeing a breakthrough in the 2025 IPL season despite Sharma’s current poor form and low runs scored. Clarke, praising Sharma’s talent, believes it’s just a matter of time before he shines with a big performance, possibly even scoring a century, as he expressed to PTI.
Clarke expressed strong faith in Sharma’s turnaround potential and believes one significant innings, whether a 40 or a 60, will ignite Sharma’s form. Once momentum builds, the best of Sharma will shine through, alleviating concerns about his current struggles. Clarke’s steadfast confidence in Sharma’s ability to recover is evident.
Clarke highlighted the hefty expectations that come with being a top player like Sharma, saying, “Great players are expected to perform consistently due to their past success. Even if they miss a few games, their excellence remains.”
MI’s poor start in IPL 2025 can be attributed to Sharma’s bad form, evidenced by his low scores this season. The team has lost four out of five matches, with their first-wicket partnership average falling to 18, a significant drop from last year’s 40. Sharma’s struggle is evident as he has only scored 38 runs at an average of 9.50, with his highest score being 17.
Sharma has scored 6,666 runs in 261 IPL matches at an average of 29.37, making him the league’s third-highest run-getter. He has hit 43 fifties and 2 centuries. In Mumbai Indians’ T20 matches, Sharma has amassed 5,769 runs in 225 games, being the franchise’s leading run-scorer.
