As votes for the Delhi Assembly elections are counted, the AAP and BJP are in a tight race. AAP seeks a fourth term for Arvind Kejriwal as chief minister, but early results indicate a lead for BJP’s Parvesh Verma in the New Delhi constituency.
Several top AAP leaders, including Kejriwal, are trailing in their constituencies. For example, Sisodia is behind in Jangpura, while Atishi is trailing Bidhuri in Kalkaji. On the bright side, Amanatullah Khan is leading in Okhla, and Gopal Rai and Satyendar Jain are ahead in Babarpur.
Avadh Ojha, a recent AAP candidate, trails in Patparganj, while Durgesh Pathak lags in Rajinder Nagar. The AAP first won power in Delhi in 2013 with 28 seats but governed for only 49 days. In 2015, they achieved a record 67 seats and secured 62 in 2020. Numerous exit polls hinted at a BJP comeback after 27 years.
