The Delhi government announced that the free bus travel scheme for women is now exclusive to city residents. Women will trade the pink ticket for a smart card, granting them unlimited bus travel in Delhi. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta introduced the new system in the Budget Session.
Gupta criticized the past AAP government for alleged corruption in the pink ticket scheme. He emphasized zero tolerance for corruption. The CM introduced digital travel cards to combat “pink corruption.” Registration for smart cards for women is set to begin in Delhi under the BJP-led government.
In the 2025-26 Budget, Gupta allocated ₹12,952 crore to enhance Delhi’s public transport, a substantial rise from the previous ₹9,337 crore. The goal is to boost the reliability and reputation of the city’s transportation system.
The AAP introduced the pink ticket plan on Bhai Dooj in 2019, offering free single-journey passes for women on DTC buses. Operators received ₹10 per ticket from the government. Due to corruption claims, a digital system will now replace it to enhance transparency and efficiency in public transport.
