In a significant crackdown on child marriage, Dhubri Police have arrested 68 people.

Dhubri, Dec 22: The Dhubri Police moving forward to restrict the child marriage and these illegal practice, on Saturday. The social issues have been taken on top priority by the Dhubri Police across multiple police station jurisdictions as they committed for the public.

Highest number of detentions at Dhubri Sadar(17), Bilasipara(16), Gauripur(13), Golakganj saw 10 arrests, among these Tamarhat and Agomoni police station reported 3 and 4 detentions respectively.  In addition to the above remaining arrests occurred in Chapar and other areas within the district.  This operation is part of an ongoing campaign against child marriage in Dhubri, a district once heavily affected by the practice.

In comparison to earlier campaigns, over 500 individuals were arrested, leading to a notable decrease in cases and heightened awareness about the legal and social consequences of child marriage. It is assured by the Police authority that investigations are going on, necessary legal action  would be initiated if found guilty.

Earlier, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma highlighted the state’s continued fight against child marriage, stating in a tweet, where he informed that in Phase 3 operations launched on the night of Dec 21-22, 416 arrests were made and 335 cases registered. Arrested individuals would be placed before the Hon’ble Court. Further, it is informed that they will continue to take necessary steps in this regard to end this social evil!
