Hyundai's hydrogen SUV received a significant upgrade, overshadowing EVs.

Hyundai reaffirms dedication to hydrogen cars with the new Nexo SUV, inspired by the Initium concept and ‘Art of Steel’ design. It sets a distinct style for upcoming hydrogen FCEVs, distinguishing them from battery-electric and combustion models in Hyundai’s range.

The new Nexo model showcases a unique design with grid-shaped “H-two” lights, H-shaped bumper surfaces, and matte silver accents contrasted against the flat-black body cladding. It is now larger and competes with electric SUVs like the BMW iX3 and Tesla Model Y.

The new Nexo’s interior has been enhanced with increased passenger space and a ‘connected cockpit’ dashboard matching the Ioniq 5. It features dual 12.3-inch displays for instrumentation and infotainment, while traditional mirrors have been replaced with camera displays on large screens, contributing to its contemporary design.

The second-gen Nexo boosts its fuel cell stack’s electrical output by 16%, now at 110kW. Hyundai claims the new stack is more robust across temperatures. The battery output doubled to 80kW, allowing for a stronger electric motor, trimming acceleration time from 9.2 to 7.8 seconds for 0-100km/h speed.

The new Nexo has an increased hydrogen tank capacity to 6.69kg, boosting its range beyond 700km per fill-up with a more efficient powertrain. It also features vehicle-to-load (V2L) capacity to connect with external devices, serving as a hydrogen-powered generator and enhancing Hyundai’s SUV model utility.
