Hacha Kekan, Karbi National Festival, Celebrated at Phuloni KCS Zone on January 19

On January 19, the Karbi Cultural Society (KCS) organized the Hacha Kekan Festival, bringing the Phuloni KCS Zone alive with vibrant celebrations. The event was inaugurated by MLA Mr. Dorsing Ronghang, whose presence added to the significance of the occasion.

Hacha Kekan, also known as the Karbi National Festival, is a cherished post-harvest celebration of the Karbi community. Held at the conclusion of the harvesting season, the festival showcases the community’s deep cultural heritage and traditions.

The event draws enthusiastic participation from local youth and dignitaries alike. A central feature of the festival is the traditional Hacha Kekan dance, performed to honour and offer gratitude to Kathi, the paddy deity. This ritualistic dance symbolizes joy, reverence, and the successful completion of the harvest. The festival serves as a reminder of the Karbi people’s enduring connection to their agrarian roots, celebrating unity, gratitude, and cultural pride.
