The popular UPI digital payment system in India is currently experiencing service disruptions. Many users are facing problems with payments and transfers. As of 12:00pm today, over 1,000 complaints about UPI services have been reported on Downdetector, with payment failures being the main issue. This follows two previous outages in March and April.
On March 26, NPCI acknowledged an intermittent technical issue affecting transactions nationwide. On April 2, Downdetector recorded numerous outage reports, with about half linked to fund transfers and 44% to payment failures. Notably, major platforms like Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, and various banking apps experienced these disruptions.
The recent UPI outage disrupted digital transactions in India, affecting third-party apps. Users flooded social media platform X with reports of failed payments and delays. The issue began at 11:26am, peaking by 11:41am with over 222 users reporting problems on Downdetector. Complaints soared to 1,168 by noon, predominantly impacting Google Pay and Paytm.
Despite the recurring issues, NPCI has not resolved the latest incident. This is the sixth significant UPI outage in a year, including a notable one on March 26 lasting nearly three hours. NPCI recently limited QR code use for international UPI transactions on April 8 to enhance payer identification.
