Digboi, Jan. 11: Shri Gaurav Gogoi on Friday demanded a CBI inquiry into the Umrangso coal mining case. Congress leaders held signs denouncing the state’s illicit coal mining operations and the ruling BJP government during a sit-in in Digboi on Friday. Rallying against the BJP government, the protestors demanded that those responsible for the illicit mining be brought to court as soon as possible.
Additionally, it was observed that the protestors had commonly and were customarily paying their respects to the worker who had been discovered dead inside the coal mine. Gaurav Gogoi denounced the state government, police, and district administration, saying, “They want to arrest ordinary people and bury the whole scam under the rug.”
Shri Gogoi went on to say that the people of Assam need to understand how the double-engine BJP government is doing right now and be aware of the syndicates that are active in the state. They have destroyed the hills and forests of Assam.
The political careers of those with strong ties to coal and broiler syndicates are to blame for this. As long as these people hold onto their positions of authority, Assam’s economy will not grow. There would be no change in the syndicate environment in Assam. People from the working class will continue to die as a result of incidents like Umrangso,” Gogoi stated.
According to the opposition leader, the BJP government has failed to create proper economic policies for the state’s development, forcing young people into hazardous occupations. “Economic policies that rely on syndicates are not what we want.”
The unemployed youth and working class of Assam without jobs in Assam don’t want to put their lives at danger. Although they don’t want to work 300 feet underground, they are forced to since they must make money to support their families. The failure of the BJP’s economic policies, which have pushed Assamese youth and working class into such dangerous jobs, is highlighted by this, Gogoi stated.
“The Chief Minister ranks ninth among the wealthiest Chief Ministers,” he added, criticizing the government for its efforts to oppress the less fortunate segments of society. What worries them? In Assam, we saw the BJP displacing impoverished people from their homes and destroying coal, hills, and forests. They destroyed the impoverished people’s homes. Whose homes are they going to demolish next, I wonder? The issue of corruption has been resolved. The Chief Minister doesn’t even admit that any BJP leader was involved in this fraud.
“Commissions have reported that rat-hole mining continues in Assam, even though the Supreme Court has prohibited it,” Gogoi remarked, highlighting the Supreme Court’s decision on the practice. The failure of the BJP’s economic policy is the cause of this illicit mining. “The Chief Minister has time to visit Bhutan and Bombay, but no time to visit Umrangso,” Gogoi continued. He has an ethical obligation to go there.
