Former Apple engineer apologizes for divulging confidential information to journalists.

Former Apple iOS engineer Andrew Aude publicly apologized for leaking company secrets to media outlets. The apology followed Apple’s dismissed lawsuit against him. Aude admitted to sharing confidential details about Apple with The Wall Street Journal and The Information.

Aude deeply regretted his actions during his nearly eight-year tenure at Apple, acknowledging that he shared sensitive internal data with journalists as a costly mistake. Reflecting on the aftermath, he lamented the ruined professional relationships and how his software engineering career took a hit.

In his public apology, Aude expressed regret to his former Apple colleagues for leaking confidential information. He stated that it wasn’t worth it and apologized to those who worked hard on Apple projects. Apple’s March 2024 lawsuit accused Aude of leaking details about company policies and products.

The leaked information disclosed Apple’s spatial computing project, an unrevealed app, and staff numbers, coinciding with Aude’s interaction with a Wall Street Journal journalist resulting in a report about the upcoming Journal app. A document filed on February 6 in a California Superior Court mentioned “Aude reaching a resolution with Apple.”
