Flying to or from Mumbai? This charge affects you.

Mumbai’s CSMIA raised its User Development Fee from May 16 as approved by AERA. The increase will apply to tickets issued between May 16 and March 31, 2029, causing higher costs for passengers departing from Mumbai.

The updated fee structure includes added UDF charges for domestic passengers departing and arriving in Mumbai: ₹175 for departure and ₹75 for arrival. International economy class passengers face increased fees, with departure charges rising from ₹187 to ₹615 and an additional ₹260 for arrival. Business class international passengers now pay ₹695 for departure and ₹304 for arrival.

The revised UDF policy at Mumbai airport during the Fourth Control Period (2025-2029) is part of infrastructure development. Initially, Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) proposed higher domestic and international UDF rates, but AERA approved a lower rate. MIAL is operated by Adani Airport Holdings.

In order to counter higher passenger costs, MIAL has suggested a 35% reduction in airline fees. This may help airlines cover the extra UDF cost without raising fares much. Yet, actual ticket prices will vary based on how airlines choose to price their services.
