Finance Minister Sitharaman will present Budget 2025-26 today.

The Economic Survey’s unveiling precedes Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s Budget presentation for 2025-26 in Parliament. The upcoming budget is expected to uphold the government’s growth-oriented policies. The survey emphasizes enhancing rural life for inclusive development, focusing on financial inclusion for rural households and small businesses through easier access to credit.

The Budget is expected to increase allocations for agriculture, rural sectors, and welfare schemes uplifting the poor. The Finance Minister likely continues investments in major infrastructure projects to drive growth and create jobs in the 2025-26 Budget. The Economic Survey emphasizes the need for substantial infrastructure investment in the next decade to achieve India’s development goals. Current spending on infrastructure needs to rise, supported by the government’s strong focus over the past five years, with capital spending growing at an average rate of 38.8% from FY20 to FY24 according to the survey.

Key initiatives in infrastructure, rural housing, sanitation, clean fuel, social protection, and rural livelihoods will receive Budget allocations, including increased support for agriculture and rural sectors, welfare schemes for the poor, potential concessions for the middle class like reduced income-tax rates and increased standard deduction. Lower income tax and customs duty adjustments are expected to enhance disposable income, boost demand, and support domestic manufacturing amidst global uncertainties as highlighted in the economic survey.

India’s Chief Economic Advisor stated that the country must focus on domestic growth drivers as globalisation’s peak has passed. The Budget Session of Parliament began on January 31 and will continue in two phases: the first until February 13, and the second from March 10 to April 4, with Finance Minister Sitharaman set to present the budget speech in the Lok Sabha at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
