Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman emphasized a sustained focus on capital expenditure and highlighted a significant rise of 10.23% compared to the revised estimate for 2024-25, amounting to over Rs 11.21 lakh crore. She also mentioned the government’s commitment to boosting consumption. The minister confirmed the government’s unwavering emphasis on capital expenditure and highlighted the provision of interest-free capex funds to states.

Sitharaman stressed that infrastructure spending is a priority, with government expenditure on capex expected to be 4.3% of GDP this year, resulting in a fiscal deficit of 4.4% next year. Following the pandemic, capex has risen by 10-15%, reaching Rs 11.11 lakh crore last year. The Finance Minister defended the Union Budget 2025, dismissing claims of inadequate capex. She asserted that the government is not solely focused on consumption but aims for balanced growth.

Sitharaman emphasized the need for growth and instruments, highlighting the importance of capex for economic expansion. She also stressed the necessity of a consumption boost while prioritizing the recognition of honest taxpayers. The Government aims to balance building a strong foundation and focusing on key sectors such as health, nutrition, and education through welfare schemes.
