Morigaon, Jan 05: The Morigaon Farmers have successfully shipped over 12 tons of watermelons to Bihar as a result of their increased focus on the agricultural sector under the direction of the Morigaon District’s Agriculture Department. The Agriculture Department is known to be encouraging and concentrating on watermelon production in the area.
Using improved (Indus) variety seeds that the department provided, young, active farmer Shri Hemanta Deka of Bardia village, which is part of the Mayong Agriculture Circle, grew watermelons on his three bigha of land. In the Bihar market, the identical watermelons sold for Rs. 10 per kilogram once production began. Similar to this, another forward-thinking farmer from the same village, Shri Lohit Deka, was successful in growing musk melons on his three-bigha plot of land using the Agriculture Department’s improved (Mridula) type seeds.
In the local market, he was able to sell his produce for Rs 50 per kilogram. Deka received the seeds, fertilizer, and insecticides she needed from the district agriculture department. In addition to making him money, Shri Deka’s musk melon farming has inspired other local farmers and young people without jobs in the area to start growing musk melon as a source of income.
It is now anticipated that he will make about Rs 3 lakh a year from this firm. It is also mentioned that other farmers in the area were motivated by his success story, and the district agriculture department promised to offer the assistance required to advance this industry so that local farmers might become self-sufficient in the near future.
In addition to providing local farmers with financial benefits, the agriculture department’s efforts to encourage the production of watermelon and musk melon in the Morigaon area have also assisted in marketing the region’s agricultural products in national markets.
