Sophie Ecclestone led UP Warriorz to a Super Over victory against Royal Challengers Bangalore in a thrilling WPL match at Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru. Her impressive 33 runs off 19 balls leveled the scores before she bowled a remarkable Super Over, preventing RCB from reaching the required nine runs.
The match was in RCB’s favor until the last two overs. However, Ecclestone’s hitting in the final over against Renuka Singh, yielding 17 runs, forced a Super Over. The unexpected twist stunned the crowd, setting the stage for a thrilling conclusion.
Despite Mandhana’s early exit, Perry led RCB with aggressive batting, welcoming Ecclestone with consecutive boundaries and launching her first six off Thakor. By the power play close, RCB stood strong at 42/1. Perry’s exceptional form continued as she surpassed Lanning’s record, marking her as the leading run-scorer in WPL history by crossing 200 runs in each of the first three editions.
Danni Wyatt-Hodge was instrumental in RCB’s innings, showcasing her range of shots with three consecutive fours in the 13th over. She also notched up her first WPL half-century in 36 balls against her former franchise. Her dismissal saw the fall of Ghosh and Kanika Ahuja. Still, Perry stood firm, finishing not out on 90 from 56 deliveries as RCB amassed an impressive 105 runs in the final nine overs.
The Warriorz faced early challenges with Kiran Navgire scoring 24 runs and Vrinda Dinesh 14 runs before Shreyanka Patil’s injury brought in Sneh Rana, who took two wickets in two overs, putting Warriorz under pressure.
