Due to lack of permission, the Congress' Ambedkar Samman Yatra was halted near Dispur.

The State Administration has denied permission and did not receive the necessary approval from the authorities for organising the Congress’ Ambedkar Samman Yatra and blocked at the Manabendra Sarma Complex in Dispur on Tuesday. The rally, which had been planned and aimed to opposing remarks made by Union Home Minister Amit Shah concerning Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian Constitution. In this movement its trying to  reflects  the party’s engagement with the sentiments of the Dalit community, particularly against what they perceive as disrespectful comments against one of India’s foremost social reformers.

In response, Leader of Opposition Debabrata Saikia had allowed to visit the DC Kamrup (M)’s office to submit a memorandum. Congress leaders, Shri  Gaurav Gogoi, expressed his discontented with the decision and said that the Chief Minister of Assam has not given permission for undertaking the peaceful rally because he is afraid that the Congress is becoming more strong day by day.

Shri Gogoi also stated that why Chief Minister is so afraid to ongoing our rally. He alleged that his administration killed our party worker with tear gas during a rally. Shri Gogoi is also referring to the violent clashes that erupted earlier on Congress’ “Raj Bhavan Chalo” rally which was undertaken by our party on December 18.

Meanwhile, Dispur resembled a fortified zone as the administration took significant security measures to prevent any disturbances.

The Secretariat was highly guarded, with buses filled with security forces stationed strategically. The administration have been arranged several contingents of security forces, including women personnel, CRPF, and state police, were deployed across the area. Section 163 of the recently enforced BNS was previously enforced by the administration, establishing a one-kilometer radius restriction around the Dispur Secretariat to ban gatherings of more than five individuals.

It was sought for permission from the Chief Minister in this regard, but he might be got confused between a rally and a protest, so the rally has been kept in hold tomorrow and will clarify the nature of the event. It is hope he will co-operate us,” Gogoi had told the press the previous day.
