Dubai International Airport was named the world’s busiest for 2024 by a report from Airports Council International. The Gulf hub, primarily for Emirates Airlines, saw a 6.1% increase in passenger traffic last year, handling a remarkable 92.3 million travelers, surpassing 2019 pre-pandemic levels by about 3.8%.

Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport remained the world’s busiest for domestic travel, with 108.1 million passengers last year, ahead of Dubai and Dallas-Fort Worth according to ACI data. Predictions also suggest a significant slowdown in passenger growth this year, despite an estimated 9.9bn people traveling.
Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport ranked eighth among the world’s busiest airports based on ACI’s report, handling 77.8 million passengers last year. This pushed Shanghai’s airport down one rank. Hong Kong claimed the title of the busiest cargo airport, moving 4.9 million metric tonnes of freight.
