Denzel Washington not upset about 'Gladiator II' Oscar snub.

Hollywood star Denzel Washington isn’t losing sleep over being snubbed for best supporting actor at the 2025 Academy Awards. In an interview with the New York Times, he joked about his exclusion and expressed contentment with his work. Washington expressed happiness for the nominees and acknowledged the reality of his age, noting that he has other priorities and is not overly concerned about the award snub.

The star is focusing on gaining wisdom through understanding and listening more. Despite not receiving an Oscar nomination, performing in “Othello” on Broadway is fulfilling for him. While not recognized by the Academy for his role in “Gladiator II,” he secured Best Supporting Actor nominations at the Golden Globes, Critics Choice Awards, NAACP Image Awards, and Satellite Awards for his portrayal of Macrinus.

Denzel Washington, a seasoned Oscar winner, clinched best supporting actor for “Glory” in 1990 and best leading actor for “Training Day” in 2002. Despite extensive “Gladiator II” talent, the film snagged only one nomination, for costume design by Janty Yates and David Crossman. Starring Paul Mescal, Pedro Pascal, and others, “Gladiator II” serves as the sequel to the original 2000 hit.

Jacobi and Nielsen return, with Mescal taking over for Spencer Treat Clark. Mescal plays Lucius Verus Aurelius, an exiled Roman prince turned prisoner of war. He fights as a gladiator for Macrinus, a former slave planning to overthrow emperors Geta and Caracalla.
