On Saturday, the NDMC hosted a classical music concert at Nehru Park, Chanakyapuri, as part of its “Music in the Park” series 2025, in collaboration with SPIC MACAY and SRF Foundation. The event aimed to celebrate spring and the blooming of Tulips. Renowned artists like Sitar Maestro Kushal Das and Hindustani Vocalist Ulhas Kashalkar mesmerized thousands of attendees from Delhi-NCR with their performances.
A talented ensemble of musicians, including Ram Kumar Mishra (Tabla), Aashay Kulkarni (Tabla), Vinay Mishra (Harmonium), Sarwar Hussain (Sarang), and Sai Mahashabde (Vocal Support), accompanied the artists at the classical music concert “Music in the park” organized by NDMC. The event was part of NDMC’s spring celebration in the heart of the National Capital. NDMC hosts such programs to enhance urban life in metropolitan cities affected by busy routines, aiming to uplift the deteriorating urban experience.
Promoting art and culture is a key function outlined in section 12 of the NDMC Act-1994, allowing the Council to showcase these aspects beyond museums and auditoriums to engage the public. The recent concert preceded the 3rd NDMC Tulip Festival – 2025 launch. NDMC initiated tulip planting in 2017-18, starting with 17,000 bulbs. This annual tradition has been a unique success story, making NDMC the first Indian civic body to adorn public spaces with these precious flowers.
This year, NDMC imported 3.25 lakh Tulip Bulbs and planted 2.25 lakh in open space, including 1.46 lakh at Shanti Path in Chankyapuri. Additionally, 10,880 large bulbs were produced through storage and multiplication and planted. Collaborating with the Institute of Himalayan Bioresources Technology – CSIR, 14,735 bulbs were produced in Palampur, Himachal Pradesh, for the Tulip Festival.
