Congress leader Rakibul Hussain files FIR against 22 individuals following an attack.

Congress leader Rakibul Hussain filed an FIR against 22 people in Nagaon Sadar Police Station after being attacked in Rupahihaat. He mentioned that despite initially deciding against it, he had to file the complaint due to police involvement in the incident. The Dhubri MP emphasized the fear BJP has of Congress by highlighting the Superintendent of Police’s role in the attack.

After the incident, a protest at Rajiv Bhawan in Guwahati condemned the attack on Hussain. Senior Congress leader Ripun Bora stated that BJP is trying to weaken them by using ‘Gunda Raj’ ahead of the 2026 election. He demanded the resignation of Himanta Biswa Sarma, emphasizing that misusing power won’t secure victory in the upcoming elections.

Assam Pradesh Mahila Congress president Mira Borthakur Goswami, who was with Hussain at the Nagaon Police station, strongly condemned the attack. She urged the Sadar Police station to act responsibly, cautioning against blindly following orders from the Chief Minister. She emphasized that police officers should prioritize duty over political allegiance, as the state’s political landscape is subject to change.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed on a microblogging website that the police had identified the individuals behind the alleged assault on the Congress MP. The suspects include Harun, Haresh, Basir, Kasem Ali, Rosidul, Ayub Gunabari, Lutkior, Khaleque, Mojibur, and Jahangir from various areas. Hussain’s attack prompted protests across the state.
