Punjab Congress leader Partap Singh Bajwa criticized the AAP-led government for reneging on their promise to propose a resolution in the Assembly posthumously honoring former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh with the Bharat Ratna. Bajwa, also the opposition leader in the Punjab Assembly, expressed his dismay after Assembly Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan failed to fulfill his commitment to move the resolution.
Bajwa questioned AAP’s dedication to honoring Singh, India’s first Sikh PM who passed in December. He highlighted Singh’s contributions as PM from 2004 to 2014, focusing on inclusive development and economic stability. “The AAP should have stood for Punjab’s son regardless of politics, but it didn’t, which is deplorable,” he remarked.
Bajwa criticized AAP for prioritizing party politics over honoring Punjab’s stalwart. He praised Manmohan Singh, noting his significant role in India’s development during his prime ministership from 2004 to 2014, characterized by a focus on inclusive growth and stability.
Bajwa suggested potential instability in Punjab’s AAP government, citing contact with 32 AAP MLAs and hinting at BJP involvement. He accused AAP of financial wrongdoing, alleging money transfers abroad and to other states via hawala channels, expressing a belief that the BJP, not Congress, could destabilize the government.
The AAP accused Bajwa of planning to join BJP, claiming he met senior leaders. Party leader Neel Garg and state president Aman Arora pointed out Bajwa’s repetitive claims over three years and his brother’s affiliation with BJP. Arora urged Rahul Gandhi to question Bajwa about his recent visit to Bangalore and meetings with BJP leaders.
