In the city, the Mumbai Metropolitan Road Transport Authority (MMRTA) has decided to raise the fares for public buses, taxis, and autorickshaws. The unions’ demand for a fare increase to balance increased operational costs, including fuel price surges and other factors, led to the decision.
The base fare for taxis will increase to ₹28, while the base fare for auto rickshaws will climb to ₹26. The hikes for specified routes for autos, taxis, and municipal buses will also increase to ₹3–₹4. A higher basic charge of ₹26 for Auto and ₹31 for Taxis was first sought by the auto and taxi unions.
Additionally, it was agreed that a proposal to reduce AC bus prices by as much as 50% is being considered for Thane residents. Public transport in the neighborhood would become more affordable if base charges for a 2km ride were reduced from ₹20 to just ₹10.
