The Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, has launched Chaupal under its Welfare Scheme with the objective of ensuring the overall development of rural artisans across the country. The programme focuses on effective implementation of various schemes in aspirational districts and extending comprehensive support to artisans working in previously underserved craft pockets.
In this connection, a Chaupal programme was successfully organised on 25 February 2026 by the Western Regional Office (WRO), Belapur, Navi Mumbai at Village Mapgaon, District Raigad, Maharashtra.
The programme was conducted in the presence of the following dignitaries:

A total of 90 artisans participated in the Chaupal event.
During the programme, artisans were sensitised about various schemes of the Office of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts). Awareness was created regarding the benefits and utility of the DC(H) Pehchan ID Card. The participants were also motivated to apply under the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana (MUDRA) to promote and expand their handicraft activities. In addition, artisans were sensitised about the e-commerce portal www.indiahandmade.com to enhance their marketing outreach.
Outcomes of the Programme:

50 artisans engaged in Terracotta craft were identified.

On-the-spot enrolment for DC(H) Pehchan ID Cards was initiated.

10 MUDRA loan applications were filled by eligible and interested artisans.
The programme proved to be effective in strengthening institutional linkages, promoting financial inclusion, and expanding market access for rural artisans.
