The central government may extend temporary shelter at One-Stop Centres from 5 to 10 days for domestic violence survivors. Minister Annapurna Devi mentioned this potential change on Wednesday. In exceptional cases, survivors could stay for up to 15 days.
Currently, women facing violence, with their children (girls of all ages, boys up to eight), stay at OSCs for a max of five days. The Ministry is working on extending this stay. OSCs help with long-term shelter by partnering with Swadhar Grehs, managed by government or NGOs.
Devi shared updates with women panchayat leaders and the sarpanch from Jharkhand during a dinner in the national capital. The event celebrated women’s achievements and leadership on International Women’s Day. Devi, expressing admiration, highlighted the inspiring women leaders as the force driving change in their communities. Recognizing their relentless efforts and determination is crucial for advancing women-led development.
