BYD, a popular Chinese automaker known for EVs, recently launched the Yangwang U7, its first luxury electric sedan under $90,000. The vehicle boasts advanced tech and lavish features, including four electric motors producing nearly 1,300hp for a rapid 0-100km/h time of 2.9 seconds.
In 2023, BYD introduced its ultra-luxury brand Yangwang to challenge top names like Ferrari and Mercedes-Benz. The brand unveiled its $150,000 off-road SUV, U8, in September 2023. The electric supercar U9, faster than a Ferrari, also launched. Despite its luxury, the U7 is priced significantly lower than competing models.
The Yangwang U7 is larger than the Porsche Panamera, measuring 5,265mm in length, 1,998mm in width, and 1,517mm in height. It is equipped with BYD’s DiSus-Z system for vehicle stability during a tire blowout and features the “God’s Eye” driving assistance system with Lidars, radars, cameras, and ultrasonic radars for Level 2 self-driving capability.
The Yangwang U7 features a 135.5kWh BYD Blade battery providing a range of 720km. It quickly charges from 30% to 80% in under 20 minutes with speeds of up to 500kW. This power and efficiency make it a top choice in the luxury EV market.
The interior of Yangwang U7 mirrors U8’s, featuring a “Star Ring Cockpit” layout, BYD’s DiLink smart cockpit system, and DeepSeek AI. Noteworthy are the 12.8-inch curved center screen, 23-inch instrument display, and six-inch passenger screens. Yangwang U7’s five-seat model starts at $87,700, and the four-seat version at $94,300.
