BMW Group India, led by CEO Vikram Pawah, is optimistic about the Indian electric vehicle (EV) market, foreseeing Tesla’s arrival as a potential booster for the sector. Pawah believes that increased competition, such as Tesla’s presence, typically stimulates market growth.
In Q1 2025, BMW sold 646 EVs in India from its BMW and MINI brands, targeting 15% of total sales from EVs this year. Pawah, in an interview with PTI, expressed confidence in surpassing this goal.
Globally, BMW achieved a 13.5% BEV sales growth in 2024. Both BMW and MINI brands showed strong double-digit BEV growth with 368,523 units sold (11.6%) and 56,181 units sold (24.3%), respectively. Despite competition from Tesla, BMW excels in the EV market, coexisting and leading in worldwide growth.
