The BJP has organized a tour for journalists in the contentious ‘Sheeshmahal’ bungalow, where Arvind Kejriwal resided as Delhi’s chief minister. The Flagstaff Road bungalow in Civil Lines sparked debate due to its costly facelift.
Parvesh Verma, who beat Kejriwal in the election, plans to show journalists how the AAP government allegedly spent tax money on fancy renovations at the bungalow. The BJP criticized Kejriwal for claiming to represent the common man while living luxuriously.
The BJP coined the term ‘Sheeshmahal’ to accuse Kejriwal of corruption based on a renovation costing ₹33 crore for a luxurious bungalow alleged to include extravagant features like a jacuzzi. Images of these renovations were shared, with Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva claiming that four government properties were combined to create a sprawling 50,000 square meter complex. He has requested Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena to cancel this merger.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta told NDTV she plans to turn the former CM residence, Sheeshmahal, into a museum, vowing to fulfill promises made by PM Modi and thanking him for the opportunity. She opted not to stay there, leaving its future use undecided.
