BJP leader killed in Patna, one week after Gopal Khemka.

In a shocking incident, BJP leader Surendra Kewat was shot dead in Patna’s Sheikpura by two unidentified men on a motorcycle. The 52-year-old sustained four bullet wounds and was quickly taken to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Patna, where he later succumbed to his injuries despite medical treatment. The assailants fled the scene.

Police have initiated an investigation into Kewat’s murder, with forensic teams currently at the scene. Officer Kanhaiya Singh reported that Surendra was shot dead while working in the fields by unidentified assailants. Statements from Kewat’s relatives have been documented, and appropriate actions are being taken. Following the tragedy, political leaders such as MLA Gopal Ravidas and former Minister Shyam Rajak visited AIIMS to offer condolences to Kewat’s family.

Kewat’s murder follows the recent killing of businessman Gopal Khemka in Patna, raising serious concerns about law and order in Bihar, particularly with elections approaching. Opposition leader Tejashwi Yadav criticized the Nitish Kumar-led government for its inability to ensure safety. He questioned if anyone in the NDA government is willing to acknowledge the truth or recognize their failures. The incidents highlight the deteriorating security situation in the state.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi criticized the Bihar government for increasing crime rates, stating, “Bihar is today living in the shadow of loot, bullets, and murder.” In response, Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi defended the administration, asserting that criminals are no longer welcomed at the Chief Minister’s residence. He urged those questioning law and order to recognize this shift in the state’s approach to crime.
