After winning 48 of 70 seats in the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections, the BJP may appoint a female Chief Minister, as per India TV Today. This victory ended AAP’s ten-year rule and marks BJP’s return to power after 27 years in the national capital. The new CM will come from the recently elected legislators.
Four women MLAs among the winners are strong contenders for the top post: Rekha Gupta, Shikha Roy, Poonam Sharma, and Neelam Pehalwan. Gupta triumphed in Shalimar Bagh by 29,595 votes over AAP’s Bandana Kumari. Roy defeated AAP’s Saurabh Bharadwaj in Greater Kailash by 3,188 votes. Sharma won Wazirpur with an 11,425-vote margin against AAP’s Rajesh Gupta, and Pehalwan secured Najafgarh by 29,009 votes over AAP’s Tarun Kumar.
Parvesh Verma is a leading candidate for the CM post after winning against Arvind Kejriwal. Other potential candidates include Ashish Sood from Janakpuri and Pawan Sharma from Uttam Nagar, both with vast experience and electoral backing. The BJP may appoint a Deputy CM from an under-represented group, and the upcoming cabinet will focus on including more women and Dalits.
