Assam CM confirms SIT headway in initial probe of Gaurav Gogoi Pak link.

Assam’s Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, reported progress by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the Pak links of Gaurav Gogoi and his wife. The SIT uncovered significant evidence concerning Pak national Ali Sheikh, known for multiple visits to India and controversial social media posts showing a strong interest in Assam politics. Sheikh was part of a large Pakistani delegation, which included their attorney general, visiting India.

CM Sarma revealed that the Pakistani team, led by Sheikh, regularly visited India until 2018, choosing to stay in inconspicuous small hotels. The investigation encompasses the entire network associated with the individual from Pakistan, with the option of involving Interpol if necessary. Sarma has briefed Union Home Minister Amit Shah on these developments.

Highlighting the alleged Pakistani connections of Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi and his wife Elizabeth Gogoi, a four-member SIT has been established to investigate. Assam Police will ensure a thorough and impartial inquiry into the matter as directed by the DGP.

“The SIT, approved by Assam Police Headquarters, will include Inspectors, Sub Inspectors, and necessary staff. They will report periodically to the Assam Director General of Police. In response to allegations by CM Sarma, Gaurav Gogoi expressed willingness for investigation. The Chief Minister questioned Gogoi’s meeting with Pakistan High Commissioner and subsequent queries on national security and Defence in Parliament.”

Gogoi stated that his visit to Abdul Basit was routine and transparent. Many BJP MPs posed the same queries he raised in Parliament. He is willing to cooperate with any inquiry, emphasizing that the Assam government is responsible for the investigation.

Gogoi mentioned that the Chief Minister should explain his trips to Bangladesh, Dubai, and Singapore. He believes the BJP will lose power in the upcoming Assam Assembly elections. The CM’s social media posts against Gogoi suggest he recognizes his impending defeat due to public dissatisfaction with BJP politics. The Assam Police filed an FIR against Pakistani national Ali Sheikh, who had a close professional relationship with Elizabeth Gogoi.
