Apple unveiled the faster iPad Air featuring the M3 chip and designed for Apple Intelligence. The M3 chip introduces Apple’s graphics architecture to the iPad Air, enhancing its performance and portability. With iPadOS 18, support for Apple Intelligence, advanced cameras, fast 5G connectivity, and compatibility with Apple Pencil Pro and Apple Pencil (USB-C), the new iPad Air promises a superior user experience.
Bob Borchers, Apple’s VP of Worldwide Product Marketing, highlighted iPad Air’s popularity for its powerful performance, portability, and support for advanced accessories at an affordable price. The new iPad Air with M3 boasts an 8-core CPU that is 35% faster for multithreaded CPU workflows than the previous M1 model. This device, with features like Apple Pencil Pro support and the Magic Keyboard, caters to a wide range of users, from college students to travelers and content creators, enhancing versatility and value for on-the-go productivity.
The M3 chip powers the iPad Air with a 9-core GPU, delivering up to 40% faster graphics than the M1. It introduces advanced graphics architecture to the iPad Air for the first time with dynamic caching, hardware-accelerated mesh shading, and ray tracing capabilities. Compared to the M1, the M3 offers up to 4x faster performance on the iPad Air, enhancing rendering quality for lighting, reflections, shadows, and gaming realism.
The Neural Engine in M3 offers faster AI capabilities for iPad Air users than the M1, with up to a 60% speed increase for AI-based tasks. Additional enhancements for iPad models with A-series chips include Apple Intelligence support, 11- and 13-inch size options, and compatibility with advanced accessories like the Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil Pro, as per Apple.
Customers in 29 countries, including the US, can now pre-order the new 11-inch and 13-inch iPad Air with M3, which comes in blue, purple, starlight, and space gray, with storage options ranging from 128GB to 1TB. Delivery starts on March 12 in Apple Stores and to customers directly.
