Prime Minister Modi inaugurated 103 redeveloped railway stations as part of the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, aiming to enhance over 1,300 stations nationwide. This project, initiated in 2022, covers stations in 86 districts across 18 states and union territories, costing more than ₹1,100 crore.
The Amrit Bharat Station Scheme enhances railway stations into modern “city centers” with sustainable designs.
It integrates regional architecture and passenger services, with detailed phased plans for each station to improve facilities like entry/exit points, waiting halls, toilets, platforms, and adding lifts and escalators as needed.
Five railway stations in Karnataka have been redeveloped, such as Munirabad, Bagalkot, Gadag, Gokak Road, and Dharwad. These upgraded stations now offer modern infrastructure and improved passenger amenities. Gadag Station, for example, received a ₹23.24 crore revamp with facilities for Divyangjan, lifts, and escalators.
PM Modi inaugurated the redeveloped Deshnoke railway station in Rajasthan, inspired by Karni Mata Temple, along with launching a new weekly train service between Bandra Terminus in Mumbai and Bikaner station. Additionally, he virtually inaugurated 18 stations in Gujarat, including Sihor, Utaran, Dakor, Derol, Hapa, Jamjodhpur, Jamvanthali, Kanalus, Karamsad, Kosamba, Limbdi, Mahuva, Mithapur, Morbi, Okha, Palitana, Rajula, and Samkhyali, among the total of 103 stations inaugurated.
The project in India aims to improve station cleanliness, comfort, and usability while also highlighting local culture through initiatives like ‘One Station One Product.’ The government plans to introduce executive lounges and business meeting areas at some stations. Local products under the ‘One Station One Product’ scheme will be available at kiosks, and efforts will be made to enhance station aesthetics by incorporating greenery and attractiveness.
